Worship God Alone – The Abomination of the “Queen of Heaven” and the Call to True God
Diana, Venus, and Semiramis, the wife of Nimrod - "The self-proclaimed Queen of Heaven"
Introduction
The Holy Bible warns God’s people against idolatry, false worship, and following pagan traditions disguised as devotion. Among the most serious abominations in Scripture is the worship of the “Queen of Heaven” — a pagan deity whose veneration angered God and brought judgment upon Israel.
Today, many are deceived by similar practices that attribute divine qualities to mortals or intercessors. But the Word of God is clear: worship belongs to God alone, not to angels, saints, or any human being.
“Thou shalt have no other gods before me.” — Exodus 20:3“I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.” — Isaiah 42:8
Mary was a blessed servant of the Lord Jesus
1. The True Mary of the Bible
Mary, the mother of Jesus, is highly honored in Scripture for her humility, obedience, and faith. But nowhere does the Bible call her divine, omniscient, omnipresent, or omnipotent, which are the attributes of God alone. She herself declared her need for a Savior:
“And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.” — Luke 1:47
Mary was a blessed servant, not a co-redeemer or mediator.
“Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word.” — Luke 1:38
The Bible never records Mary being worshiped, prayed to, or appearing after her death. She rests with all other believers awaiting the resurrection (John 11:24).
2. The Pagan “Queen of Heaven” Condemned by God
The term “Queen of Heaven” appears not in reference to Mary — but to a Babylonian goddess named Ishtar (Astarte, Ashtoreth), whom the Israelites wrongly worshiped in defiance of God.
Jeremiah 7:18 (KJV)“The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead their dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto other gods, that they may provoke me to anger.”
Jeremiah 44:17–19 (KJV)“We will certainly do whatsoever thing goeth forth out of our own mouth, to burn incense unto the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her... Then the women said, ‘When we burned incense to the queen of heaven, and poured out drink offerings unto her, did we make her cakes to worship her, and pour out drink offerings unto her, without our men?’”
God’s response to this abomination was severe judgment:
“Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Ye and your wives have both spoken with your mouths... Therefore hear ye the word of the LORD; Behold, I have sworn by my great name... that my name shall no more be named in the mouth of any man of Judah.” — Jeremiah 44:25–26
This Babylonian goddess, Ashtoreth/Ishtar, symbolized fertility, the moon, and the mother of gods — later assimilated into pagan Rome under names like Diana, Venus, and Semiramis, the wife of Nimrod.
3. The Deception of Mixing Paganism with Faith
After centuries, the pagan concept of the “Queen of Heaven” gradually blended with cultural Christianity in Rome — transforming a condemned pagan title into an honorific falsely attributed to Mary. But Scripture never supports this title.
-
There is no queen in heaven — only one King, the Lord God Almighty.
-
Christ alone reigns beside the Father:
“At the right hand of God exalted.” — Acts 2:33
Mary, though blessed, was mortal and remains among those who “sleep in Christ.” She does not intercede, appear, or rule in heaven. The Bible makes it clear:
“For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.” — 1 Timothy 2:5
4. God’s Warning to His People
God consistently warns against the worship of mortals, images, or heavenly figures.
“Take heed to yourselves, that your heart be not deceived, and ye turn aside, and serve other gods, and worship them.” — Deuteronomy 11:16“Little children, keep yourselves from idols.” — 1 John 5:21
And Jesus Himself said:
“Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.” — Matthew 4:10
Worship or veneration of anyone else — no matter how noble their life — is rebellion against this command.

5. The Call to Return to True Worship
God’s chosen people must lead others out of deception and into the truth of the Gospel. Our mission is not condemnation, but correction in love and truth.
“And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” — John 8:32
We are called to expose falsehoods that turn people away from Christ and to remind the world that salvation is through Jesus alone.
“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” — John 14:6
Conclusion
God forbade the worship of the Queen of Heaven because it replaced His glory with human invention. The Bible never calls Mary by that pagan title; instead, it honors her humility and faith as an example of obedience to God — not as an object of worship.
Believers must reject all teachings that elevate mortals to divine rank and cling only to God’s Word.
“To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.” — Isaiah 8:20“For the LORD your God is a consuming fire, even a jealous God.” — Deuteronomy 4:24
