CALLED OUT OF THE WORLD: THE TRUE COST OF CHRISTIAN SPIRITUALITY

Called Out of the World: The True Cost of Christian Spirituality

πŸ”₯ “Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in them.” — 1 John 2:15

Introduction: A Spiritual Wake-Up Call

True spirituality is not a blend of Christian phrases and worldly living—it is a radical transformation. It’s the surrender of self, the rejection of worldliness, and the pursuit of life in the Spirit.

Walk by faith, not by sight. Live by the Spirit, not the flesh.

This message is not for the faint-hearted. It challenges the casual Christian, rebukes the cultural believer, and calls the faithful to a higher walk with God.

1. What Is True Spirituality?

True spirituality means living in the spiritual realm, not being tied down by the natural world or its pleasures. It’s not about building a secure life here on Earth. It’s about being rooted in Christ, not in comfort.

“Do not try to build a base of operation in the natural realm or engage in any kind of self-indulgence.”

When you walk in the Spirit, the old way of life fades away. The priorities of the world lose their charm, and your mind is renewed to live differently—fully aligned with God's purposes.

2. You Were Never Meant to Belong to This World

Jesus made it clear:

“You are in the world, but you are not of the world. I have chosen you out of the world.” (John 15:19)

Let the Word of God be your light, your compass, and your sword

If you belong to Jesus, you no longer belong to this fallen world. Your mission here is to rescue souls, not to blend in.

3. Why the World and Even Some Christians Reject This

Sadly, many Christians mock or isolate those who follow this command. They ridicule those who live set-apart lives—those who do not indulge in worldly pleasures or ambitions.

Why? Because this message exposes the compromise. It holds up a mirror to a Christianity that wants both the cross and the comfort of the world.

“They isolate and corner Christians who do not engage in any such self-indulgence or set up a base of operation in this world that makes them one with it.”

4. God’s Promise: He Will Provide

When you choose the narrow path, God doesn’t leave you lacking.

“Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” — Matthew 6:33

Jesus assures us that our Heavenly Father knows what we need—and He will take care of us. Your job is to walk in faith. His job is to provide.

5. Spirituality Means Going Against the Flow

True spirituality is resistance. It’s swimming upstream in a downstream world. The path of the righteous runs counter to everything the world promotes.

“World” means the place where Satan is ruler—until he is cast into the lake of fire.

This is not easy. The world will never understand you. Even Nicodemus, a religious leader, couldn’t grasp what it meant to be born of the Spirit (John 3). The same confusion blinds many believers today.

6. Why Christians Get Distracted

Many Christians fail in their walk because they worry too much—about survival, success, and security. Eventually, they fall back into the world’s mold, walking alongside unbelievers, pagans, and atheists.

The root of this fall?

A lack of scriptural knowledge and weak faith in God’s promises.

To overcome this, we must pray continually for stronger faith and immerse ourselves in God’s Word. We must walk in obedience and covenant, just as Abraham did—except now it is not physical circumcision, but spiritual circumcision (Romans 2:29).

7. The Cost Is Great—But the Reward Is Greater

Yes, this path is difficult. But compared to the tribulation, hell, and eternal separation from God—it is nothing.

You are not alone in this battle. You have:

  • The grace of Jesus

  • The guidance of the Holy Spirit

  • The promises of God

“To live under the rule of Satan and still refuse to cooperate with him is the most dangerous and courageous act you can perform in this world.”

This is the essence of Christian spirituality: to live apart from the world, wholly unto God, and boldly for Jesus Christ

8. Jesus Has Already Overcome the World

Jesus never hid the difficulty of following Him, but He gave this assurance:

“In this world, you will have tribulation. But take heart—I have overcome the world.” — John 16:33
“Do not fear the one who can kill the body, but fear Him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.” — Matthew 10:28

9. You Are More Than a Conqueror

You are not just called to survive this battle—you are called to conquer.

“In all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.” — Romans 8:37

So be courageous. Stand firm. Reject the world and its empty promises. Your King is coming—and your reward is eternal.

Conclusion: Let God's Word Be Your Compass

Let the Word of God be your light, your compass, and your sword. Walk by faith, not by sight. Live by the Spirit, not the flesh.

This is the essence of Christian spirituality.
To live apart from the world, wholly unto God, and boldly for Jesus Christ.
