STRENGTH IN UNITY: A THREE-STRAND CORD AND GOD’S ROLE IN MARRIAGE
A Cord of Three Strands: The Power of God in Marriage
Introduction
Marriage is a sacred covenant designed by God, and its strength lies in
the presence of the Divine. Just as power cannot flow between two male
connectors but only when a male pin connects with a female socket, so too is
marriage a union divinely ordained to function in harmony. Without God's
presence, any relationship risks becoming unstable, much like an ill-fitted
electrical connection that sparks destruction.
The Source of Power: God’s Role in Marriage
Every creation in the universe draws power from its Creator. Just as a
manufacturer provides a manual for its product, God has given humanity His
Word—the Bible—to guide and instruct us. His commandments serve as both a blueprint for righteous living and a means of troubleshooting life's
challenges.
“The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven
and earth and does not live in temples built by human hands. And He is not served by human hands, as if He needed anything. Rather, He himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else.” (Acts 17:24-25)
Adam was not created to toil but to live in God’s provision and presence.
Hard labor and struggle resulted from the fall, a direct consequence of
disobedience. However, by walking in faith and obedience, we can reclaim the original blessing of divine provision.
The Sinful Nature of Humanity and God’s Redemption
Mankind has repeatedly failed in remaining obedient to God. The Bible
affirms this truth:
“There is no one righteous, not even one; there is no one who
understands; there is no one who seeks God.” (Romans 3:10-11)
“Indeed, there is not a righteous man on earth who continually does good
and never sins.” (Ecclesiastes 7:20)
Since humanity cannot achieve righteousness by its own efforts, God
implemented His plan of salvation. Through Jesus Christ, God offers redemption from sin and restoration to divine favor.
“If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your
heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Romans 10:9)
Faith in Christ not only removes the curse but restores believers to the
original status of Adam and Eve before the fall. We are no longer slaves to sin
but children of the King, entitled to His provision and protection.
Marriage and the Presence of God
Love and respect between a husband and wife cannot exist without God, for
true love is a reflection of His presence. If a relationship is based solely on
material attraction—wealth, status, or power—it lacks the divine foundation
needed to withstand life's trials.
“You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your
father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native
language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.” (John 8:44)
A wise woman does not wait to love her husband after he becomes
successful. Instead, she nurtures and supports him, understanding that through her devotion, God will bless their union.
Faith Over Worry: Trusting God’s Plan
Worry and self-reliance cannot add a single moment to our lives. Our fate
rests in God's hands.
“Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” (Matthew 6:27)
“If you cannot do such a small thing, why do you worry about the rest?” (Luke 12:26)
Those who trust in their own abilities rather than in God’s providence
ultimately find themselves unfulfilled.
“But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be
demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’” (Luke 12:20)
God’s Design for Marriage: A Three-Strand Cord
For a marriage to thrive, it must be founded on more than just the
husband and wife—it must include God. The Bible states:
“Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of
three strands is not quickly broken.” (Ecclesiastes 4:12)
This is why same-gender unions, though sustained by worldly means, do not
receive God’s blessing. While He cares for all people, He does not condone
lifestyles that deviate from His divine plan.
Conclusion: Seeking God’s Presence in Marriage
God is the foundation of life, love, and marriage. Those who walk in
obedience to Him experience His divine blessings, while those who reject His
design ultimately face the consequences of their choices. May we seek His
presence in every aspect of our lives and relationships, for only in Him can we find true fulfillment and eternal joy.
