Jesus Is the Lord of the Seventh Day Sabbath – Understanding the True Path to Salvation

Introduction

Who is Jesus, and what does it mean that He is the Lord of the Seventh Day Sabbath, and not the Lord of the Sixth Day Sabbath or Eighth Day Sabbath?!!!

Many people believe that following religious laws and traditions is enough for salvation, but the Bible teaches otherwise. Jesus Himself declared that He came not to abolish the law, but to fulfill it. His life, ministry, and ultimate sacrifice demonstrate that salvation is found through faith in Him, not merely by following the law.

Let’s explore why Jesus is the Lord of the Sabbath, the role of God’s law, and how grace through Christ leads to true salvation.

What Is the Will of God?

Jesus lived in complete obedience to His Father. His mission on Earth was to fulfill God’s purpose, not His own desires. Similarly, our purpose is not to follow our own will, but to live according to the will of our Creator.

So, what is God's will? It is revealed in His Word:

“This is my beloved Son, my Chosen One; listen to Him!”
(Luke 9:35)

God’s will is clear: we are to listen to Jesus. He is our guide to truth, righteousness, and salvation.

Jesus: The Lord of the Sabbath

Jesus explicitly stated that He is the Lord of the Sabbath in:

  • Matthew 12:8
  • Mark 2:28
  • Luke 6:5

The religious leaders of His time accused Him of breaking the Sabbath law, but how could He, the very author of the law, be guilty of violating it? Jesus didn’t come to destroy the law—He came to fulfill it.

Many people today still focus on legalistic traditions, thinking they can earn salvation by following religious rules. However, just as circumcision was a symbol rather than a requirement for salvation, observing the law alone does not bring eternal life.

Salvation Comes Through Jesus, Not the Law

Jesus introduced a new covenant—one based on grace, not legalism. His sacrifice replaced the rigid requirements of the law, offering salvation through faith in Him.

“For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.”
(John 1:17)

Without Jesus, the law only serves to reveal sin. It highlights humanity’s inability to achieve righteousness on its own. This is why salvation is by grace through faith in Christ, not by following religious rituals.

The Law and Grace: Why Did Jesus Come?

The primary purpose of the law is to identify sin:

“For by the law is the knowledge of sin.”
(Romans 3:20)

Sin exists because the law exists. If there were no law, there would be no transgression. However, the law itself cannot save anyone.

If obeying the law could bring salvation, then Jesus’ death on the cross would have been unnecessary. Instead, His sacrifice was essential—it fulfilled the law and provided the only path to salvation.

  • The law shows us our sin
  • Grace through Jesus offers us salvation

Through His perfect life, crucifixion, and resurrection, Jesus became the righteous Lamb of God—the only one qualified to take away the sins of the world.

“For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.”
(Romans 10:4)

Jesus: The Fulfillment of the Law and Prophets

Jesus didn’t abolish the Old Testament laws and prophecies; rather, He completed them through His life, ministry, and ultimate sacrifice.

Everything written in the Old Testament—from Moses’ laws to the prophecies of Isaiah, Daniel, and others—pointed to Jesus as the Messiah. His:

  1. Birth – Fulfilled prophecy (Isaiah 7:14)
  2. Ministry – Demonstrated divine authority (Luke 4:18-19)
  3. Crucifixion – Paid the price for sin (Isaiah 53:5)
  4. Resurrection – Defeated death (Psalm 16:10)
  5. Ascension – Seated at God’s right hand (Daniel 7:13-14)

“I am the Gate; no one comes to the Father except through me.”
(John 14:6)

Religious Blindness: Why Many Reject Jesus

During Jesus’ time, religious leaders were blinded by their traditions. They refused to recognize the Messiah written about in their own Scriptures. Instead of embracing the truth, they rejected, ridiculed, and ultimately crucified Him.

“They look, but they do not see. They hear, but they do not understand.”

Even today, many people hold onto religious traditions rather than embracing Jesus. They focus on rituals, laws, and religious systems, but miss the heart of God’s message.

Jesus did not come to establish a religion; He came to restore a broken relationship between God and mankind.

  • The religious leaders cared about their status and power
  • Jesus cared about the poor, sick, and oppressed

The Priority: The Sabbath or the Lord of the Sabbath?

Religious laws exist for our benefit, and we should respect them. However, our priority must always be Jesus—the Lord of the Sabbath.

The Sabbath was made for man’s benefit, not as a rigid rule for salvation. Jesus made it clear that He has authority over the Sabbath because He is the one who created it.

He purchased us with His own blood, redeeming us from sin and Satan.

This doesn’t mean we should disregard God’s commandments. Rather, it means that following religious laws alone will not save us. Only faith in Jesus Christ brings true salvation.

  • Obedience to God is important
  • But faith in Jesus is essential

Final Reminder: Faithfulness to Jesus Leads to Salvation

The book of Revelation highlights the importance of remaining faithful to Jesus:

“This calls for patient endurance on the part of the people of God who keep His commands and remain faithful to Jesus.”
(Revelation 14:12)

“Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.”
(Revelation 14:13)

True salvation is not found in legalism, religious traditions, or human efforts. It is found only in faith, love, and obedience to Jesus Christ—the Lord of the Sabbath.
